Incredibly well polished pop anthem from NYC electronic pop veteran Penguin Prison. ‘Turn It Up’ puts a feelgood instrumental under his own words about protest.
Without making it all a little too on the nose, Penguin sets up a pretty accessible pop track. About his own song: “‘It’s not loud enough, turn it up’ means be heard; raise your voice; don’t become complacent. It’s not normal what’s happening right now and we must remind ourselves and others of this.” Penguin Prison says the song is inspired by the ‘current cultural climate’: “‘Turn It Up’ is about raising your voice and fighting for who you are and what you believe in. Why do some people seem so hell-bent on trying to prevent others from living their lives the way they want to when they aren’t harming anyone?”
Penguin Prison is and has been a strong name from New York in the past few years. For reference, some of his best known originals include ‘Don’t Fuck With My Money’, ‘Fair Warning’ and ‘Something I’m Not’. Next to that, Penguin Prison has successfully collaborated with RAC and Gramercy, is remixed by artists such as Elephante, Felix Da Housecat and The Knocks and has himself remixed well-known artists such as Lana Del Rey, Ellie Goulding and Kimbra.
