NEW MUSIC: Ollie Thorpe – Rust

‘Rust’ in an extraordinary new single released by Australian indie artist Ollie Thorpe, released just before the weekend.

Ollie Thorpe is a singer/musician from Sydney. He’s a recording artist with a background in rock and jazz, having studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. On stage Thorpe (on guitar/vocals) is backed by drummer Miles ‘Cannonball’ Thomas (also works with bands such as Japanese Wallpaper and montaigne) and bassist Brendan Clark (also with other bands, Broken Mountain and Jesse Redwing). The three formed a collective through a mutual appreciation of rock and of roll. As current influences, Ollie Thorpe mentions bands such as The Drones, Queens Of The Stone Age and Andy Shauf.

Ollie Thorpe’s song writing – especially on ‘Rust’ – feels refrehsingly unpredictable. Thorpe’s been described as ‘an eclectic mix of angular guitar melodies and an incredible sense of dynamic’. In the recent past, the Drummoyne based frontman has released different singles such as ‘Protege’ (see it played live here) and Wonder. Both tracks – as well as Thorpe’s new single ‘Rust’ – have been getting support through Triple J Unearthed.
