My DIY Satellite.

Indie is do-it-yourself music, synonymous for hard work and no sleep. Bryan Stage is one of those indie artists wishing there were more hours in a day. He works 40 hours per week as an IT Manager, writes film music and plays bass in a band called Unarmed. So when he writes music for his own project it’s usually nighttime, accompanied by two good friends: Scotch and cigarettes.

His own project is a band called My Satellite and already has two band members. Himself and his laptop. Together they make Electro-Indie-Rock, or ‘walls of sound’ as the L.A. based musician refers to them. “I’m obsessed with harmonies and layering, both vocally and instrumentally. I love creating rich soundscapes that move me and hopefully move someone else as well.” Obviously he came a long way from being a twelve-year-old kid who listens to Grunge.

Building these walls of sound on his own also means Bryan must know his way around recording, production and mixing. “Keeping things DIY from start to finish really gives me the freedom do things my own way and allows me to take advantage of technology as I see fit.”

‘A Nighttime Daydream’ is one of My Satellite’s latest productions from the self-produced and self-recorded Telescopes EP.

It’s not likely that the band will remain a solo project. There will be live performances and it’s creator is eager to find some extra talent, such as a drummer, guitarist or vocalist to add to the project. “As much as I love the control of writing and playing everything, a live show without live instruments wouldn’t do the music justice. Of course there will be samples integrated into the set, but I want to recreate live as much of what is recorded as possible.”
