Steve takes over the blog today for a quick 2012-in-retrospect post. This goes down pretty much the same way as the grammy’s. There are categories, there are winners. Carefully selected by a team of experienced judges: Steve himself.
Hi there. Congratulations! I mean: we survived this year and it was a close one. I’m quite excited about the past twelve months. As a journalist I met quite a lot new and amazing artists, but in 2012 I basically fell in love with two artists: Disclosure and Jessie Ware. But hey, they are both absolutely lovely right? Here’s this year’s winners:
Best album by two men who sing while they are dressed in animal suits:
THE 2 BEARS
Best dreamy song that actually gives a lot of energy without forcing a drop:
MISUN – THE SEA (Produced by Nacey)
Best Bass record of 2012:
CELSIUS THIS WAY
Best record on an album by two men who sing while they are dressed in animal suits:
THE 2 BEARS – WORK
Best Garage record of 2012:
TOYBOY & ROBIN – EVERYTHING YOU WANT
Best remix of a track made by a guy who confirmed he was gay and simultaneously made my personal favourite album of 2012 named ‘Channel Orange’:
FRANK OCEAN – THINKIN’ BOUT YOU (RYAN HEMSWORTH REMIX)
Best female artist that has two bizarre synchronized dancers in her show that made me sweat like a stripper in a wet t-shirt contest:
SANTIGOLD
Best House record:
JULIO BASHMORE – AU SEVE
Best remix of a track by Justin Bieber:
AS LONG AS YOU LOVE ME (LOUIS LA ROCHE REMIX)
Best hip-hop album of 2012:
KENDRICK LAMAR – GOOD KID, M.A.A.D. CITY

Best track that I believe that it needed a proper remix in 2012 but it didn’t:
BRANDY – BACK & FORTH

Best track that is sort of the reason why the apocalypse didn’t make it:
Best title of 2012:
Best breakthrough of 2012:
DISCLOSURE
Best song that I heard backstage with Disclosure during a Skreamizm event where Skream
played disco songs and we stole beer out of his fridge:
BEYONCÉ – YES

Best liveset in a hotel room where Guy of Disclosure did kind of a creepy but extremely funny
dance while playing his VIP edit of Jessie Ware’s ‘Running’ and Skream got mad at the crowd who
held a huge pillow fight during the show, overloading him and his dj gear with feathers:
SKREAM B2B DISCLOSURE – BOILERROOM

Best new secret artist collaboration that seems to be a new project by the guys of Magnectic Man:
ROUTE 94
Best alter ego:
DAPHNI (Caribou)
Best female breakthrough that we already know by her beautiful collaboration with SBTRKT in
2011 called ‘Right Thing To Do’. By releasing ‘Devotion’, her debut album, she proves to be both
lovely as extremely talented:
JESSIE WARE
Best cross-over track by an artist from Los Angeles who made that beautiful remix from The
XX’s ‘Islands’:
Best track to have sex on:
JESSIE WARE – SAY IT / SWEET TALK
Best record made by a woman who was one of last year’s breakthrough artists by making one of
my favourite albums, working together with Mosca, Jessie Ware and Jacques Greene:
KATY B
Best incomprehensible DJ of 2012 who does not make any records:
JACKMASTER
Best free italo disco album, that I am familiar with because of that movie where Ryan Gosling
smashes someone’s head in an elevator like a watermelon, and actually is better with some
drums added but that version can’t be downloaded for free:
CHROMATICS – KILL FOR LOVE
Best remix of a Destiny’s Child track that is made by SirOJ, but only because the Jameson remix of
Jumpin’ Jumpin’ is not available for download:
INDEPENDENT WOMAN (SIROJ REMIX)
Well that’s it. Congratulations to all winners, and have a splendid 2013.
